Purpose: To compare the characteristics of eye movement factors using the eye movement tracking device(Eye Tracking Device, SMI, Co.) during the New York State Optometric Association King-Devick (NYSOA K-D) and Developmental Eye Movement (DEM) test were performed.
Method: The counts and the duration of fixation, saccade and blinking eye movement factors were investigated by using the eye movement tracking device in 86 college students() subjects.
Results: There was no significant difference found between subtest 1, 2 and 3 in the NYSOA K-D test performance time(, and S3 , respectively) Also, there was no significant difference found between subtest A and B in the DEM test performance time(, and , respectively). Fixation performance time was increased than saccade performance time during the both NYSOA K-D and DEM test. Furthermore, saccadic performance time was decreased in the vertical disposition than the horizontal disposition in the DEM test.
Conclusions: To evaluate performance of fixation and saccadic eye movements more accurately, there is considered that a future study is necessary to perform NYSOA K-D and DEM tests included horizontal and vertical aligned texts with eye movement tracking test on subjects with various aged and abnormal eye movements.
